You can find, and get lost in, a ton of technical talk all over the internet about the new Transmitters High Sync capabilities and all the features on the ELC Pro with it’s intuitive OLED display and built-in receivers. Here's the low down...

I have been an Elinchrom Ranger user from the start of my career and have a grown a unique style and even a nick name because of them.  With the ELC Pro HD flash head, and the EL Skyport Plus HS for Nikon; Elinchrom gives me the ability to push my photography even further than ever.  There are a ton of features between both products that I am extremely excited about. Most importantly, was the ability to do High Speed synced strobe sequences from a very reliable and built in product. You can find, and get lost in, a ton of technical talk all over the internet about the new Transmitters High Sync capabilities and all the features on the ELC Pro with it’s intuitive OLED display and built in receivers. Or you can also open the boxes, plug them in, and with a few simple adjustments in settings, you are ready to do something that has not been possible until recently.

This image of Trever Maur was shot for the Axis boats 2015 advertising campaign.   The opportunity came up at the end of the 12-day long, 15 hours a day lake shoot covering all the boats in the brand.  My crew and I had already loaded 4 brand new ELC Pro HD 1000’s and 2 Honda 200 Generators between the boats earlier in the day. Trever had been talking about trying to do his wrapped 360 rewind 180 for a sequence all week, and this would be out last and only chance to get it.  We had a short conversation between the 3 different boat drivers on angles, distances and protractors.  We ended splitting the 4 flashes and 2 generators between the boat Trever was riding from and the chase boat directly behind him.  I was on a 3rd boat on Trever’s landing side to get the best style of the trick and my usual lighting style. We started the geni’s, dialed all 4 strobes to the proper recycle time for the shutter speed and power needed for distance, synced the strobes to the receiver and were ready after the first test round.

This was the first ever on water strobe sequence with a first ever trick of its kind in wakeboarding.  Considering the sleeplessness and length of the shoot, we needed everything to work flawlessly between athlete, chase drivers, gear, and my trigger finger.  We managed to nail everything from lighting style down to the perfect landing with in only a few tries.  The new Elinchrom gear made it so easy by performing flawlessly right out of the box.
